Adrenal Fatigue

  • The adrenal glands, located on top of the kidneys, are known for releasing hormones that help you combat stress, including cortisol and adrenaline. They are also responsible for releasing male and female sex hormones and influencing kidney function. Reductions in adrenal function affect your carbohydrate, protein, and fat metabolism, fluid balance, heart and cardiovascular system, energy levels, and sex drive.
  • Adrenal fatigue is a term applied to a collection of symptoms and is commonly associated with intense or prolonged stress. It can also arise during or after acute or chronic infections, especially respiratory infections such as influenza, bronchitis or pneumonia. When your adrenals are fatigued, the glands are unable to keep pace with the demands of constant fight-or-flight stimuli and as a result are unable to produce an adequate amount of hormones you need to feel good.
  • Dr. Carpenter considers the underlying causes of your fatigue and tailors a plan to help boost your natural ability to restore your adrenal glands, which may include changes in diet, stress release techniques, and natural supplements.
